Obey 2MEX | 2MEX Has a Posse
"2MEX solidifies himself as ONE OF URB'S TOP RAPPERS on the bleeding edge
with brilliant, introspective rhymes and head-knocking beats. Hip Hop never had
it so good". -URB Magazine
"2MEX has the skills and complexity to trancend a genre that needs a breath of fresh air". -XLR8R Magazine
Born ALEX OCANA Jr , hailing from mid city Los Angeles ,Initially attracted to rap as a youth, 2MEX started honing his skills at the world
famous Good Life Cafe which for los angeles were the early seeds ofprogressive hip hop spawning such luminaries as Pharcyde, Freestyle Fellowship, Jurassic 5, Dialated Peoples and influencing a whole genre ofmusic. Alex began his start in this industry in the late 80's early 90's doing street promotions for such labels as Def Jam , Delicious Vinyl and many others.
Soon Disgruntled with the Business ofthe Business Alex turned to the artform and 2Mex was Born.
2MEX First recording's were with the legendary underground super group "VISIONARIES" which he has released 2 albums with, he also delved into a side project which was much more socially conscience "MIND CLOUDERS" and his critically acclaimed solo project called "B-Boys in Occupied Mexico". Part of the new hip hop under-ground of the mid to late '90's and influencing a whole new generation of artists From Definitive Jux to Atmosphere. After being dubbed by URB Magazine "as one of the top ten... in 2002" he was signed as one of the first artists at brand new label Paladin Superco run by former record executives Tes Tesfay and Kevin Lewis.
Paladin's Business Model is to invest into highly creative music but market it like a major.
2MEX defies definition with a strong fan base in the extreme sports community, Latin community & Hip Hop Community. His new album explores these same frontiers. From the hard driving Public EnemyEsque "Fernandomania" to the forlorn lamenting of "Ghost Memo' which is a tribute to his fallen best friend. From the alternative rock Radio single "BABY I Ain't Joking" Featuring labelmate Awolone(Shapeshifters) the song is actually a hip hop love song. This album covers the gamut but 2Mex was very cognizant to keep a certain consistency so he only used two Producers, the critically acclaimed OMID (Beneath the Surface and Monolith) & Life Rexall (Shapeshifters).
Visionaries and Of Mexican Decent are his regular folks while he's been seen working with Linkin Park, Shapeshifters, Darkleaf, X-Ecutioners, and Sparta (f/former members of At The Drive-In) to name a few. 2MEX is ready to raise the bar in Hip- Hop.
