The Message - A Chicano Art Exhibtion | Cisa Studio Hammond IN
THE MESSAGE A CHICANO ART EXHIBITION - CISA STUDIO LLC (Hammond,
Indiana)
My next photography gallery will be in Hammond, Indiana on
April 16th, 2010 at CISA STUDIO LLC. It’s going to be a group show with fellow
Chicano artists: Johnny “Mala Suerte” Garza, Roman Villarreal, and Tony Reyes.
The exhibition is titled “THE MESSAGE” based on the classic hip-hop song
by Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five. The song was released in 1982 on
Sugar Hill Records and is considered one of the most important songs in the
history of hip-hop music and is often listed as one of the best hip-hop songs of
all time.
CHICANO ARTISTS:
Johnny “Mala Suerte” Garza | (tattoo artist, graphic designer,
and photographer) Johnny Garza started tattooing out in the Chicago area and
ever since he started tattooing he has also pursued other creative ways to
express his creativity. Although Johnny is well known as a tattoo artist,
graphic design and photography can also be added to the list of creative
outlets.
Roman Villarreal | (sculpture artist, painter, and
teacher) Roman Villarreal lives in South Chicago and considers himself a
“sculptor of the people.” He has shown work at Blake Palmer Gallery, South Shore
Cultural Center, and Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum and has his work in private
collections.
