Press Release - END-Dependence Tour
International poets launch first ever Central American and Mexican spoken
word tour throughout the state of California.
Members from the Central American poetry collective, Epi-Centro Poets, Inland Empire’s Non-Prophet Poets, and internationally renowned poet César A. Cruz will tour the entire state of California, from San Diego to Davis, seeking to unite the Central American and Mexican communities.
The tour has already been endorsed by countless organizations as well as celebrities such as East Coast hip-hop artist KRS-ONE, and will reach two University of California campuses (Berkeley & Davis), one Cal State campus (Fullerton), and one community college (Contra Costa).
The tour will also make stops at the historic Community Service Organization (C.S.O.) where farm-worker leader, César Chávez, received his training in the 1950s, as well as cultural centers such as La Voz Alta (San Diego), Espresso Mi Cultura (Hollywood) and Modern Times Bookstore (in the heart of the Mission District in San Francisco).
Joining the poets will be rapper Carlos Mena, UC Davis’ spoken-word collective
‘Ill-Literacy’ along with featured poets and artists from throughout California and the Américas.
Proceeds received at each venue will go to local civil rights and student organizations including the Latino Student Union and METAS (CCC), MEXA/Centro de Abya Yala (UCB), MEChA (CSUF), the Third World Forum (UCD), the Carson 10 American Indian Defense Committee, Calaca Press (S.D.) and various others.
To set up interviews with the poets or for more information please contact César A. Cruz at 562.650.6123 or Hugo Chávez at 818.298.5329. You can also email the tour coordinators at ENDdependence@yahoo.com, as well as access information on the web at:www.BrownPride.com/END-Dependence/
